The long-term effects of atmospheric abrasion and the extremes of temperature which can act on localised parts of aircraft skins have been documented.
The maintenance and repair required on a regular basis is very expensive (both in down-time and man-power).
Application of Siloxycoat at inspection time will pay for itself very quickly, because much of the regular surface maintenance and cleaning regime can be restricted to inspection only. Aluminium and painted skin re-coating and polishing will be virtually eliminated.
